I'm embarrassed,
Aren't you?
Well, you should be.
Obviously.
Just look at yourself,
all bold and outgoing.
People are judging you,
Can't you tell?
I see them all around,
the guys at the back of the bus,
the elderly lady you just past,
It's in their eyes.
A thousand words they didn't say,
Freak, Creep, Fag.
Abnormal.
Not one of us.
Sticks and stones are just material,
But my soul is truly precious.
And every word cheapens it,
turning me to nothing.
So, please, I beg,
Just cover yourself,
Be free away from hating eyes.
Save your gentle heart.
They don't understand,
and never will.
Hiding is easier,
and you don't deserve their hate.
There will be no revolution,
No sudden change of heart.
It will always be us.
It will always be them.
Learn to respect the walls,
that are put up around us.
They might chain us in,
But they let us have our shadows.
