My Heart's Resting Place.

Can you learn to lay beside me?
Can I teach you how it feels
To be more then just a lover
To be less then just a soulmate

Your body is sublime
Your mind just as fascinating
But I don't need your everything
I don't even need your smile

Just the words, "I will"
To leave those cracked lips
And make me realize that in this world
Another person exists.

Just a moment
Just a night
That we can be together
Just for my life

I've never burned a bridge
I haven't wanted to rebuild
I've never felt so alone
I haven't the slightest clue

So please just give me this token
Just give me this gift
A night in the company of another
Would be a night I'd always remember

But amid my lovestruck longing
And my desperate heart's lies
I already know the answer
To this self-defeating wish

I could never lay with someone
Who isn't my beloved
Who I don't want with all my heart
Who I would never care for

So exiled by nature
instead of cruel fate
My heart will wait into the night
For the one I wish to rest against.
